A multi-vendor, multi-functional SaaS eCommerce platform for retailers in Canada and the USA. I led the group that brought new Clients onto the platform and built their stores.

Task

The platform onboarded new retailers all the time. Each one needed its own store built on the platform, in its own brand style, with its locations and its point of sale connected. Existing Clients needed support, and new ideas from Clients had to be tested before they became part of the product.

My scope:

  • Management of the store development group.
  • Onboarding new Clients: store sites built to each brand style.
  • Support for existing Clients.
  • Innovation: new solutions built as MVPs and tested with Clients.
  • Work with the product department on business requests and priorities.

What I built

  • Dozens of retailer stores on the platform, each to the Client’s design and brand style.
  • Store locations and the configuration each Client needed.
  • POS and inventory integrations: product catalog, stock and orders kept in sync with in-store retail.
  • Stores on different builders, mostly Elementor, with core platform plugins added per configuration.
  • MVP solutions for custom Client requests, handed to the core team once approved; other requests agreed and built case by case.
  • Mostly English-language stores, some multilingual.
  • SEO optimisation and tracking.

How it went

The hardest part was load. Stores took sharp one-time peaks, especially during promotions, and had to stay up through them. The other challenge was the variety of Clients: every retailer came with its own design, locations, integrations and requests, while all stores had to stay on one platform.

The process ran across three groups. Product managers brought business requests from Clients, my group built and tested the solution on real stores, and the core team turned approved MVPs into platform features.

Result

Dozens of retailer stores in Canada and the USA launched and supported on one platform. Solutions tested on Client stores went back into the core product as features.
